Understanding Platform Analytics

Your Platform Analytics are insights and metrics that measure the reach, engagement, and impact of your communications across all your channels.

These insights identify top performing content, empower you to make smart decisions, and provide you with true business intelligence from your communication efforts.

⚠️ Metrics and charts in Platform Analytics collect and display data based on the timeframe that is entered or selected on the Date Range tool.

User Insights

Gauge how many employees are engaged in the platform and which channels get the most traffic. User Insights also reveal the frequency and depth of your users’ content consumption and platform adoption.

  • Users Trends show you how many users have viewed at least one post or event, and users who have reacted or commented on a post at least once.
  • Channel Usage shows the ratio of total reads that come from each Sparrow channel during the selected time period. These reads can come from Mobile (iOS or Android), MS SharePoint, MS Teams or the portal (web browsers).
    • Users can read content multiple times in multiple channels. The chart is based on the number of total reads, not unique reads.
  • Engaged Users are the total number of users who opened at least one post or event in any Sparrow channel for each month included in your selected timeframe.
    • Users can sign in to multiple Sparrow channels without interacting with any piece of content. This chart only counts instances when users have actively opened published content at least once per month.

Content Engagement

Identify your highest performing posts, events and surveys. Use this intelligence to inform your communications strategy and create more engaging content for your audiences.

  • Posts with Most Views and Events with Most Views rank content with the highest number of views. If a list is empty, no content has been viewed within your selected timeframe.
    • Users can view posts and events multiple times. These lists track actual views, not unique views.
  • Surveys with Most Responses rank surveys that received the highest number of responses. If this list is empty, no survey responses were submitted within your selected timeframe.
    • One survey can have multiple questions. This chart measures each survey submission, not each answer to each question.
  • Post Reactions & Comments are the total number of reactions and comments users have submitted for each month that is included within your selected timeframe.
    • Users can react only once but comment multiple times on a single post. This is a month-on-month view of the total number of reactions and/or comments.
  • Views by Time of Day shows the total number of views by hour for all the days included within your selected timeframe.
    • This chart collects the number of views per hour of each day, and is displayed in the viewers time zone.
      • For example, 99% of your workforce is based in the Eastern Time Zone and standard work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and you are based in the Pacific Time Zone. Peak hours of activity will most likely reflect during office hours; therefore, when you view the chart, most views will occur from 6:00 AM to 3:00PM in your local time.

Helpful Tips

  • Adjust the date range tool to account for broader, or more specific, data.
  • When analyzing user insights, keep in mind:
    • Published content may have comments and/or reactions disabled. Make sure to turn these on and boost your content to allow users to react to or comment.
    • Some channels, like the mobile app, MS SharePoint or MS Teams integrations, may not be available to your organization. Contact us at support@sparrowconnected.com to upgrade your plan.
  • When analyzing content engagement, keep in mind:
    • The number of specialty posts and events published and/or promoted (boosted) within the timeframe you selected can affect content engagement.
      • Breaking, Featured, Mandatory, and Compliance posts, and Mandatory RSVP events, usually have banners or thumbnail indicators that can attract more attention from readers.
      • Mandatory and Compliance posts, as well as Boosted posts, are also prioritized in the users' feeds, which in turn can get more views than other posts.
      • You can adjust the topic or post type settings of a web part or a component in your SharePoint pages or Portal pages so that the feeds will pull and display only specific posts— this will allow you to highlight or reinforce messages based on trending or important comms.
    • The number of topics used on posts or events, and the number of subscribers each topic has, can also affect your views. Depending on a topic's settings, a user can subscribe or unsubscribe from a topic. If a user is not subscribed to certain topics, the content tagged with those topics will not appear on their personal feeds.
  • More analytics are available in Post Insights, User Insights and Newsletter Insights.
